Con gozo y esperanza, hombres y mujeres de fe, provenientes de diversas congregaciones y confesiones religiosas de 13 países de América Latina y el Caribe, inspirados en la Dimensión Social y Profética del Evangelio y acogidos por la Conferencia de Obispos del Brasil, compartimos las reflexiones, valoraciones y compromisos que hemos asumido a lo largo del II Encuentro Latinoamericano sobre Iglesias y Minería, celebrado en Brasilia del 2 al 5 de Diciembre del año 2014.

Recogiendo las preocupaciones e iniciativas de diversas comunidades e Iglesias locales a lo largo del continente, sobre el incremento de las agresiones a la vida y los Bienes Comunes derivadas del modelo extractivo, y en continuidad con el I encuentro sobre Iglesias y Minería realizado en el 2013 en Lima, Perú, nos hemos reunido para reflexionar, compartir, celebrar y generar caminos que nos permitan, en fidelidad al evangelio de Jesucristo, acompañar de manera articulada a los pueblos de nuestra América Latina que se sienten amenazados y condenados a la destrucción de sus medios de vida y a la negación de un futuro posible, en abierta contradicción y tensión del proyecto de vida proclamado por la visión cristiana del mundo.

A lo largo de estos días hemos reafirmado como la imposición del modelo extractivo, promovido por las grandes corporaciones, las economías globales y con la complacencia de quienes gobiernan nuestros Estados Nacionales, lejos de contribuir al bienestar de todos y todas, incrementa las desigualdades, las violaciones a Derechos Humanos individuales y colectivos, la división de la familia Latinoamericana y de nuestras comunidades, la destrucción de zonas privilegiadas por su riqueza de bienes naturales y la diversidad biológica de nuestro continente.

Con tristeza reconocemos como junto a las graves violaciones a los Derechos Fundamentales de los pueblos de nuestra América, se ha agudizado la crisis ecológica causada por un modo de vida consumista y mercantilista de bienes y un modelo extractivo que no reconoce ni respeta los límites de nuestro planeta y que, además de fragmentarlo y acelerar su degradación y vulnerabilidad, está convirtiendo en mercancías los territorios de nuestros pueblos originarios, los minerales, la biodiversidad, los combustibles fósiles y el gas natural, la energía del viento, del agua y del sol y demás Bienes Naturales.

Todo esto, nuestro Dios Creador nos entregó para el sustento de la vida, así como para su disfrute y bienestar colectivo, y no para el enriquecimiento desmedido, que desconoce los derechos colectivos que compartimos entre todos los seres humanos que habitamos este planeta, en este momento histórico, así como también la responsabilidad solidaria de entregar a nuestras futuras generaciones un mundo mejor, como el que recibimos.

La valiosa diversidad cultural de los pueblos de América, con cosmovisiones respetuosas y armónicas hacia la Madre Naturaleza, se encuentra gravemente amenazada por la imposición de este modelo que acapara los territorios a cualquier costo y se convierte en un proceso activo de despojo, que atropella a quienes se resisten a él, con mecanismos que van desde las amenazas, la persecución, la cooptación, la criminalización, la judicialización y hasta el asesinato de líderes comunitarios, defensores y pastores que acompañan estas luchas.

Los medios de comunicación comerciales contribuyen a la promoción de la falsedad de este modelo, seduciendo a la población con promesas que no son cumplidas, ya que, como expresión extrema del modelo neoliberal, su objetivo es la acumulación de capitales y no la distribución equitativa de bienes.

Compartimos con alegría como diversos sectores y líderes de las Iglesias Cristianas hemos asumido la misión profética de acompañar a las comunidades y personas que defienden la Creación, la Vida y el Derecho frente al modelo extractivo, como una forma concreta de fidelidad a nuestra misión eclesial en estos momentos de la historia. Confiamos y esperamos que cada vez más nuestras Iglesias, desde las bases, hasta las jerarquías, asuman posiciones consecuentes frente a la problemática generada por este modelo extractivo y depredador de Recursos, tal y como se reconoció en el documento de Aparecida“…hay una explotación irracional que va dejando una estela de dilapidación, e incluso de muerte, por toda nuestra región” (DA 43).

Frente a esta realidad, nos definimos como una articulación de personas y organizaciones religiosas, con espíritu ecuménico e interreligioso, que en fidelidad a nuestra opción por los empobrecidos e empobrecidas, luchamos a favor de la Vida y los Bienes de la Creación.

En relación con las comunidades, reafirmamos nuestro compromiso de trabajo con las bases expresado en intercambios de saberes y conocimientos, estrategias de protección, defensa y solidaridad, acompañamiento en la generación y presentación de acciones de denuncia local, nacional e internacional, entre otras.

Queremos profundizar una mística que anime nuestro actuar, nos permita construir propuestas de acción y nos ayude a avanzar en nuestras reflexiones y lecturas teológicas.

Nos comprometemos a continuar promoviendo la articulación internacional para el dialogo, la incidencia y la denuncia, en coordinación con otros actores religiosos tales como: Franciscans International, Vivat International, Mercy International, la Red Cidse, la Red Eclesial Pan Amazónica, el Pontificio Consejo de Justicia y Paz, así como también con otros actores sociales como el Observatorio de Conflictos Mineros de América Latina y diversas expresiones sociales con que compartimos propósitos y visiones a lo largo del continente.

Que la Mística y el espíritu de hermandad que ha caracterizado este encuentro nos animen a asumir con mayores energías la misión profética y la responsabilidad colectiva en el cuidado de la vida y de los Bienes Comunes.
